A Breathing Void
A Breathing Void is a sensory intermedia installation, blurring the boundaries between matter and space, through the use of a very thin veil of plastic, animated by a set of fans of varying sizes and powers, and illuminated by LED strips coming from a variety of directions. The acoustic sounds of the installation (of the veil itself, of the fans, of the smoke machine…) are interweaved with a spatialized electroacoustic sound composition.
Inspired by exchanges with scientists and readings about quantum physics, the installation can be seen as embodying the ways quantum virtual phenomena behave, at the verge of existence, by emerging and disappearing before they actually have a chance to come into existence.
This is a video documentation of the the installation , that was brought to life at the invitation of Lisa Tronca and Gina Cortopassi, curators and co-director of the Espace Art Actuel journal, for its 2024 fundraiser, on December 12, 2024 at Centre Clark.
Before that, I was granted a residency by Centre Clark to develop the work over four days on-site. The artist-run center perte de signal also offered precious support for the previous development of the work. Jean-Michaël Celerier, as always, has enabled the ossia.io software environment, that allows me to implement my work in my own idiosyncratic way.
